Pavel Šrut (1940-2018) is considered to be one of the most respected authors of Czech children’s literature. Besides children’s books, he also wrote poetry, fiction and song lyrics.
He was a freelance author, but he also worked as a translator from Spanish and English and as a cultural editor.

Pavel Šrut was included in the IBBY Honour List twice, won two Golden Ribbon awards, was nominated for a Magnesia Litera four times and won once. He was awarded the Karel Čapek Prize,
the Jaroslav Seifert Prize and finally the State Prize for Literature. Many of his books have been published in translation abroad, including in English, Spanish and Polish.
In creating his work he often collaborated with the award-winning Czech painter and illustrator Galina Miklínová.
