Iva Procházková, born in 1953, is considered the First Lady of Czech children’s literature. Her extensive work has won numerous literary prizes. These include not only the renowned Czech Magnesia Litera Prize and The Golden Ribbon for Youth Literature, but also the Austrian Youth Book Prize and the German Youth Literature Prize, to name but a few. For political reasons Iva Procházková was forced to leave her home and she lived in Austria and Germany from 1983 to 1994. The German magazine Die Zeit described her as “the most important author of contemporary Czech literature for children and young people”. Now that her own three children are grown up, Iva Procházková also writes for adults. She is the author of highly esteemed crime novels, which have also been turned into a popular series for Czech Television. She works as a freelance writer and screenwriter in Prague.
