Initiation by Darkness
Prague in the near future: the city has been destroyed by a war between AI and humans, that lasted only an hour. A new dictatorship has emerged; people are controlled, enslaved, punished for not going along with the regime.
In addition, there is no electricity—human and animal power has to replace machines. Even the internet, which can only be used in a few places and at risk to life, is operated by human hands. There are no more books, all libraries worldwide have been destroyed, because the AI doesn’t need them.
Against this post-apocalyptic backdrop, the story of a young historian begins to unfold: Planeta Brixi, a scientist and medievalist who initially appears to be female, however as the story progresses, it becomes clear that their gender changes back and forth—depending on the phase of the moon. In Planeta, the female and male principles combine to form the prototype of a human who genuinely searches for the meaning of life.
Planeta, female in the beginning, does not want to bow to the dictators and finds no place in society. Unhappy as she is, she meets her dying grandfather Mordgold Brixi, who was a spiritual leader among the so-called Barabs, a fictional ethnic minority. He promises her an inheritance of immeasurable value. To gain it, she must solve mysterious riddles and pass difficult tests – just like in a fairy tale. New hope arises. Planeta finds companions, Svantovit and Cydonie, a young man and a young woman, who also feel out of place in the new dictatorship. They are therefore willing to leave everything behind and set off on a fabulously adventurous journey through beautiful but war-ravaged Prague.
Step by step, the three friends must solve seven riddles, which lead them to seven Prague towers. Each tower holds a different enigmatic clue to the grandfather’s treasure, but also a great danger to their lives. Like in an action film, breathless, thrilling scenes play out before the reader’s eyes. The three friends are repeatedly victims of brutal violence, they are betrayed and imprisoned, but they discover the value of friendship and the value of knowledge. Their close friendship and the mystical knowledge they acquire step by step, save them from any hopeless situation in the end.
On the dangerous path to their grandfather’s inheritance, the three friends repeatedly encounter Artificial Thinking, which materializes as a mysterious person in a long cowl with a hood, who sometimes rescues them and sometimes helps them with advice.
In the end, Planeta, Svantovit and Cydonie find the grandfather’s inheritance, which is radically different from what they—and readers—have been expecting. The treasure gives the three friends wisdom and an everlasting hope for the future.
